With great power comes great responsibility". When God showers us with blessings, He presents us with two choices:
(1) To hold fast to Him and allow ourselves to be stewards of His blessings; or
(2) To do as we want and eventually be corrupted by the blessings. I'm sure everyone starts out with the obvious right choice, but it is not a one-time decision. The only way to sustain and commit to the decision is by "holding fast to Him".
From 1st Reading - Deuteronomy 30:15-20:
"Today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and doom ... Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the Lord, your God, heeding His voice, and holding fast to Him."
From the Gospel - Luke 9:22-25:
"What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?"
