Night driving is a very good illustration of trusting in God's perfect timing and His will. When we drive at night, we only depend on our headlights which light up the road up to 50 meters (I think) ahead of us. We don't get to see the entire stretch all the way to our destination, just enough to get us there safely - if we pay close attention to what the light beams reveal to us. It is much the same with God's plan for us. His will and plan is revealed to us at the right time. How many times did we question a bad turn of events only to realize later on that things turned out much better than we had planned or hoped for? If we get to see the entire plan immediately, then we might fail to appreciate the beauty of the road that takes us there.
As Pope Francis said, our God is a God of surprises. He finds joy in seeing our delight once we realize how so much better His plan is. We just need to put Him first, above all and everyone else - above even the ones we hold dearest to our hearts ... Because our God is the God of Love ... And He loves them more than we ever could. We need to trust, that, whatever His will is, it is best for everyone. We can't go wrong when we obey Him.
From 1st Reading - Genesis 22:1-2, 9-13, 15-18:
"I know now how devoted you are to God, since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son."
From 2nd Reading - Romans 8:31-34;
"If God is for us, who can be against us?
... Christ Jesus who died - or rather, was raised - who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us."
Gospel - Mark 9:2-10:
"This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him...
As they were coming down from the mountain, He charged then not to relate what they had seen to anyone, except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what rising from the dead meant."
