Lenten Series: Mar 13

God first. Neighbor second. There is an order. God should be #1 - above everyone, above all things.
Sometimes, when we love someone so much, it blinds us to what God is showing us and we become deaf to God's whispers. It is not difficult to put someone we see, feel and hear above someone invisible (although, in truth, He is present in everything) whose voice is barely a whisper above the din of our everyday lives.
What we fail to see is, that when we love God first, we inevitably love everyone and everything else. And when we obey Him out of love and complete trust, we inevitably do what is best for the people we love as well --- even if it does not seem apparent at first.

From Gospel - Mark 12:28-34
"Jesus replied, 'The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "
